FUNDRAISING FOR SOUTH AFRICA
KB’s roots can be found firmly in the mountains and beaches of Cape Town. Gareth has written before about how, having grown up in South Africa, a part of him will always belong there (read more about Gareth’s recent trip to SA here), and if Gareth is rooted there, then so is KB. Martial arts was one of the things that shaped his childhood and adolescent years, and he brought the desire to change other children’s lives in the same way, with him to the UK. Over time, this has morphed into the KB we know and love today, and now the desire to help children is taking us back over the ocean in the opposite direction.
We know that as a community, we have the power to reach out to children living in South Africa, who currently do not have access to the same opportunities that our children do. Through a KB instructor training scheme which took place just prior to covid sweeping across the globe, we had instructors in South Africa who were setting up classes in various regions, and (name) donated her time to running classes in (location).
You can see from the photos just how much the children enjoyed their sessions. Unfortunately, the covid outbreak prevented the classes from taking off any further, but we want to build on what (name) achieved, and train up more instructors in South Africa, who can deliver KB sessions to children who currently just do not have access to this kind of provision. This, however, will require money. We need funds to train up the instructors, to equip them with the knowledge and skills they need to organise and run classes, and to provide any equipment they may need. Therefore, we are going to embark on a fundraising project, so that the KB community in the UK can reach out and expand into South Africa, and make a positive difference.
The first event we have planned is our THREE LOCAL PEAKS CHALLENGE, which will take part on 23rd April 2023.
